U11 Division 1, 2 & 3 Important Update
Hi everyone,
We have been receiving and hearing about a number of questions on the U11 Tier 1 Tryout and the U11 Tier 2 and 3 assessments. Please read all the following and it will hopefully answer any questions you have.
Mark Simmons our U11 program director, has been heading up the Tier 1 tryouts and will be overseeing the Tier 2 / 3 assessments this coming week. He has club players running drills and stations with the players and the club has independent assessors at each of these stations evaluating and ranking the players at the stations on a scale of 1-5. This criterion is based on a list of things we are looking at to be able to fairly evaluate the players' skill level and make sure they are placed on the correct team. No coaches nor Mark are making these rankings, and the players will be placed with similar skill ranked players at the end of the day. I will explain each of the tiers below.
Tier 1 - The team’s final selection will be the top ranked players in the tryouts. It will be based on the ranking of the assessors. A coach will be chosen based on where their player ranks in the tryout / assessment if they have indicated an interest in coaching. We have a number of people that have applied, and they will be assigned based on where their own child lands.
Tier 2 & 3 - These are not tryouts, and the kids will be divided based on where they are assessed. The coaches will be assigned to the spot their child’s is assessed at. We will be deciding how many of each Tier 2 or 3 teams based on the skill level seen during assessments. If for example we have enough skill to have two Tier 2 teams of 13, we would place the next highest ranked 26 kids evenly across both rosters. If there are 39 left after that, they would be divided evenly amongst three Teir 3 teams, again based on skill assessments.
It was suggested at the last session for tryouts that if you had attended the tryouts, that there wasn’t a requirement for you to attend the 2/3 assessments. It is being offered because the players have already been assessed, and we will know where they rank already. The players can contact Mark Simmons at mark@synergyscreens.com if they would like to attend but it is not required. We are holding these mainly to assess the players that we have not seen already. These are not TRYOUT sessions. The players will be placed based on skill and trying to honor as many special requests as we can without affecting the skill level on each team.
It was previously mentioned that all rosters would be announced at the same time but through some discussions it has been decided that final Team Rosters for Tier 1 will be announced after 9:00PM on Sunday May 11th so that all players that attended the Tier 1 tryouts will know where they stand. The balance of Tier 2 and 3 will be announced a few days after assessments wrap up.
If you have further questions, please feel free to reach out to Mark or I about the process.
Thanks,
Steve Campbell, President SUSC
